Allison Ender's Portfolio
My mission statement:
I am a forward thinking educator who is passionate about educating at-risk students. My goal is to challenge my students, as well as myself through technology and innovative learning activities that are not only creative but also require out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving skills.

My teaching environment:
The Academy of Learning (AOL) is an alternative high school program servicing credit deficient seniors from the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. Students are referred to the program by recommendation of their guidance counselor and a team of other professionals from their high school. Students at AOL may be a school aged parent, an adjudicated youth, have issues of alcohol/substance abuse, mental health issues or special learning needs. All students have on-going attendance issues.

I am currently in my fourth year working with at-risk students in the AOL program. However, this is my first year as an employee of West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. For three years I was employeed by CESA #1 as a learning specialist implementing the AOL program. The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District has since absorped the AOL program. Currently, my role as a teacher/coordinator for the district is to guide students as they construct their learning in needed subject areas. Students are self-directed independent learners, choosing when and how to complete their required work. My responsibility is to ensure students achieve academic proficiency in their needed subject areas required to graduate from high school.

As a teacher/coordinator, my goal is to foster a supportive yet rigorous alternative learning environment for at-risk learners. Meeting the disparity of educational needs and learning styles of our at-risk students is vital in their ability to achieve academic success. Through continual encouragement and perservance, these reluctant and unsuccessful learners have an oppertunity to earn a high school diploma, which provides a path to post-secondary options and the world of work.
